Philips electric shaver

This electric shaver has been with me for the past few years. And everytime I woke up late, it helps to "clean up" my face nicely, without the cuts and blood :-)

Last week when I tried to recharge it, it gave me its final spark and black smoke :-(

I start looking for a new one and they are $100 at least. So putting my little knowledge learnt from BEAM, I rolled up my sleeves and tried the DIY diagnostics. It is so obvious after I open it up : black burnt marks and the special AC plug come loose, falling onto the table !!

Easy !! Simple by-pass surgery will do. Well, when I'm home alone (that is, my wife goes shopping without me).

Haven't shave for a week, my wife starts pushing me to fix this little guy.  So I picked last weekend afternoon and here it is :

There must be a short-circuited somewhere. Look at the burnt mark here !!
The PCB can't surrive this electric sparks and pretty much a burnt hole, or little dent :-)
This burnt mark is very close to the AC plug
The white plastic plate is supposed to insulate and protect the circuit. And it is doing the best job :-)
Pretty much melt down and burnt.
This is a by-pass surgery : just trace the circuit from the burnt hole to the actually contact points, use a copper wire and skip the PCB copper track.
This is the special AC plug.

Two copper wires run from the plug to the contact points :

two big blob of solders with black wire laying on the PCB and the white wire underneath the PCB

You can see the copper track just below the by-passed black copper wire
Another messy soldering : big blob of solders on this AC plug
Fun to do and I did have a rewarding kiss from my wife, well, after I shaved :-)

Happy ending :-) :-)
